BIO
Sophie Jacobson is a portrait & lifestyle photographer, living and working in Venice, Los Angeles with her husband and two sons. A native German, Sophie grew up behind the iron curtain in former East-Germany and discovered her love for photography while modeling during her teen years in Berlin — she quickly discovered her real passion was behind the camera. After moving to the States in her twenties, she began assisting photographers like Lauren Greenfield and went on to earn her M.F.A. in photography at Savannah College of Art & Design. Soon after, she moved to Los Angeles and opened a successful boutique photo studio LOVE BUCKET PHOTO ( https://lovebucketphoto.com/ ) with a focus on kids lifestyle portraiture. Sophie Jacobson's work has been published and exhibited internationally in cities like Berlin, Atlanta, and Los Angeles.
ARTIST STATEMENT
The body of work INSIDE THE BOX attempts to question the relative truthfulness of the photograph in general and the portrait in particular. As the audience observes these portraits, the subjects are considered, categorized, and judged by their superficial characteristics. While drawing inspiration from portraiture of the recent past and present, the work appropriates the visual language of popular culture and commercial photography, thereby blurring the lines between realism, representation, and stereotyping.
