Ben Zank

Geometry, repetition, and surrealism = a combination that New York photographer Ben Zank has perfected in his imagery based on the human body and the landscape. Whether it be asphalt striping or tree limbs, male unidentified figures become one with the landscape, leaving the viewer wondering if these images are a tribute to the love of the land, or a figure trying to hide away and return to the earth. Naked figures pose a stark contrast against the backdrop of the land while clothed figures blend into their surroundings making one also wonder if these images are about the self consciousness that lies within him... or us. Is the figure blossoming out of the land or sinking back into it? The answer will be different for each of us.

Zank first studied journalism until his grandfather handed him a camera. And we're glad he did.
