Osamu Yokonami

Osamu Yokonami is a Tokyo based commercial photographer who manages to find a playful inner child in his subject matter. His settings are often vast landscapes, covered with water, lush grass, and even snow. His subjects most recently have been that of school children displaying their natural curiosity, which evokes those same memories in the viewer. These portraits are simple, yet complex. The identity of the children are mainly unseen, and though most scenes are playful, some evoke an air of mystery. Often, he uses distance of his subjects, making them look small in the setting. The repeating patterns pull you into the scene. Yokonami also uses a variety of vantage points for shooting, where the viewer will feel higher or lower than the subjects.
