Ryan Muirhead

Finding his passion in photography at the age of 26, Ryan Muirhead has submerged himself in a growing collection of cameras, primarily shooting analog. Muirhead describes finding photography as "coming out of a place of turmoil... It was such a revelation." Photography for Muirhead became therapeutic and he began what he calls "journaling" as a way to visually show what he felt at the time of the photograph, making each piece intensely personal.

Coming from a background a moving films (Muirhead's dad worked as a camera operator), Muirhead first began as a camera assistant. However, it was some time later that he took his first images and then four years after that, switched to analog completely. He studied photography at Utah Valley University and mainly shoots types of portraiture.

Muirhead's photography work has a dream state effect to them and the images of the body create forms instead of figures. Water and blurred effects tend to be a recurring theme in this body of work. The palette is soft and muted and seems almost fairy tale like.

Muirhead conducts workshops while traveling as well as portfolio reviews.
