JP Terlizzi


"JP Terlizzi is a New York City visual artist whose work explores themes of memory, relationship, and identity. His images are rooted in the personal and heavily influenced around the notion of home, legacy, and family. He is curious how the past relates to the present and how that impacts and shapes one’s identity. Born and raised in the farmlands of Central New Jersey, JP’s career spans thirty plus years as creative director for a boutique agency specializing in retail design. He earned a BFA in Communication Design at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and has studied photography at the International Center of Photography in New York and Maine Media College in Rockport, ME.

His work has been exhibited widely in galleries across the United States and internationally including shows at The Center for Fine Art Photography in CO, Vicki Myhren Gallery at the University of Denver, The Griffin Museum in MA, Tilt Gallery in AZ, Panopticon Gallery in MA, Candela Gallery in VA, The Los Angeles Center of Photography, The Texas Photographic Society and The Berlin Foto Biennale, Berlin, Germany, among others. His solo exhibits include shows at the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts in Providence, Cameraworks Gallery in Portland, OR and Soho Photo Gallery in Manhattan.

JP has received many honors and recognition including being named as a 2019 and 2018 Critical Mass Top 50 recipient for his series The Good Dishes and Descendants. Descendants was also selected as winner of the 2018 International Portfolio Competition at Soho Photo Gallery in NY, a Finalist in Fresh 2019 at Klompching Gallery in NY and winner in First Look at Panopticon Gallery in Boston. In addition, he was a 2016, and 2015 Critical Mass Finalist with his series Mother, and Hunter’s Calling.

JP’s work has been presented in a number of publications including Lenscratch, PDN, Shots Magazine, Photo Emphasis, All About Photo, L’oeil de la Photographie, Mono Chroma Magazine, The Photo Review, F-Stop and Abridged Magazine.

Collections holding his work include Candela Gallery and The Center for Fine Art Photography. JP is currently represented by Foto Relevance Gallery in Houston TX."
